Treatment posts
Treatment posts allow for adding information for a patient, including a number of fields in addition to free-form text and images.
Treatment posts are shown on a patient’s timeline in the order they were created.
Adding a treatment post
To add a new treatment post:
- navigate to a patient’s profile
- click on Appointments in the sidebar
- click the dot menu on the right of an appointment, and then click Add treatment post or
- click Add new treatment post
- enter any information in the relevant fields in the form
- see the Setting the duration of treatment and Setting upper and lower wires sections below for more information on the utilities available for those fields
- optionally add an annotated image, or upload files that will only be visible to your practice
- click Save
Once created, the treatment post will be shown on the patient’s timeline.
An annotated image added to a treatment post will be available in the patient’s files.
Setting the duration of treatment
The duration of a patient’s treatment can be set with the Treatment time until now (in months) field on the form.
For new patients, or patients who are starting a new treatment, the value can be set to 0.
For patients who are returning for ongoing treatment, the value of the field will be automatically calculated by the following rules:
- if there are no previous treatment posts with a value set for this field, no value will be calculated
- otherwise, the most recent treatment post with a value will be used, where the
sum of the following values will be calculated:
- the value of the Treatment time until now (in months) field of that treatment post
- the difference in time since that treatment post was created, and the current date
The treatment post that was used for the calculation will be shown in the menu near to the Treatment time until now (in months) field, labelled Calculate the treatment time from another treatment post.
This menu allows for any applicable treatment posts to be selected to calculate the duration of treatment from.
If the calculated value is not satisfactory, feel free to enter a value into the field directly.
Setting upper and lower wires
The Upper wire and Lower wire fields on the form can be used to describe the wires that are used at any point in time during a patient’s treatment.
To make it simpler to determine which wires were used in a previous appointment, the form allows for selecting a previous treatment post to populate these fields with.
From the menu labelled Apply wire values from another treatment post, select a treatment post where wires were previously set.
The associated Upper and Lower wire fields will be updated with the values set in the selected treatment post.
If the values from the selected treatment post are not satisfactory, feel free to select a different treatment post, or select the wire values from the fields directly.
Managing a treatment post
Treatment posts can be managed from the patient’s timeline as follows:
- send the treatment post to the patient
- print the treatment post
Sending a treatment post to a patient
Treatment posts can be emailed to patients from the timeline.

Annotating images
In addition to uploading files to a treatment post, it can be useful to annotate images.
Annotating images on treatment posts is done in the same manner as for entries - please see that page for instructions on working with annotated images.
